He made his international debut at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 2004 and quickly gained recognition for his fierce drag-flicks, reaching speeds of up to 145 km/h. Despite a life-altering injury in 2006, when a stray bullet left him paralyzed, Sandeep defied the odds and made a remarkable comeback in 2008. As captain of the Indian team from 2009 to 2010, he led India to a historic win at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup after 13 years and was the tournament’s top scorer and Player of the Tournament. He also played a key role in qualifying India for the 2012 London Olympics by scoring 16 goals in the qualifiers.

Sandeep Singh’s remarkable contributions to Indian hockey earned him the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2010. Following his international playing career, he continued to shape the sport as a coach and mentor, while also stepping into public service as an MLA and former Sports Minister of Haryana.
